The German philosopher Hegel attributed to his fellow philosopher Baruch Spinoza the following statement, «All determination is negation.»
«But negation of what? In principle, of God. For in the beginning of time there was God, the source of ALL. In the Western tradition, man is presented as the one who has no purpose without God. For Christians, man was created in the image and likeness of God and for Jews, God is a good worker who gives us a hand. Whereas, for atheists, man’s purpose is in part to dethrone God. If this is not an absolute denial of God, then at least it limits his power, as humans come to occupy the space that was once reserved for God alone.» Bernard Henri-Levy indicates.
We all deny at some point our actions, our way of thinking, our essence. We know it and most human beings bring to the space of unconsciousness all that we deny. And when we bring to consciousness that denial, we can work the concept to understand if it is a defense tool or we must accept the reason for that denial in order to transcend it.
